Keen and Savvy

Original artwork · One of one · 2023

Question everything - Just not until there’s nothing left to act on…

Keen & Savvy is about the balance between questioning and acting. Looking twice, challenging assumptions and thinking through what could go wrong — without letting good judgment turn into endless hesitation. Because progress rarely comes from eliminating uncertainty. It comes from understanding enough to take the risk that is worth taking.

Beyond decoration, find something to hold on to. For the days you need to remember what matters.

On the surface, we’re filling an empty wall. Underneath, we’re looking for something to connect with — a piece that reflects what we’ve lived, learned, overcome or still want to remember. Something that catches your eye on an ordinary Tuesday and gives you a little hope, courage or strength exactly when you need it, and where you need it.

The Exclusive Story Only This Piece Can Tell.

“Keen & Savvy” grew out of more than a thousand conversations a year. Around leadership tables and in meetings. In workshops, university reading rooms, dance classes and fitness sessions. Very different rooms, very different stakes — and yet, I kept noticing the same pattern. On one side, we can think ourselves into stillness. Another question. Another scenario. Another reason to wait. On the other, confidence can move faster than understanding. We act before we have seen enough to know what we might be missing. Somewhere between paralysis by analysis and the Dunning-Kruger effect, two very different ways of looking at the world tend to collide. But perhaps they don’t have to. That tension shaped the two characters and their relationship. Savvy is larger for a reason. It has perspective. It sees more of the landscape, has collected a few more bruises along the way - and has become more careful because of them. Keen is smaller, still reaching, eager to explore and willing to take the leap without seeing the entire landscape yet. One knows what experience can teach us. The other knows that some things can only be learned by moving. Neither sees reality completely. They see it from where they stand. Put their perspectives together and a fuller picture emerges: possibility and risk, experience and curiosity, caution and momentum. What looks like conflict can become something far more useful — two incomplete perspectives making each other better. The painting itself carries the same tension. Turquoise, violet, blue and muted gold overlap rather than settle neatly into separate territories. Some marks are bold, others almost disappear beneath later layers. Fragments remain visible while others have been painted over, altered and absorbed into something new. The surface holds traces of what came before without allowing any single layer to dominate the whole. Even the colours refuse to choose sides. They travel through both characters and the space around them, binding two different perspectives into one shared reality. What looks fragmented up close begins to make sense from a distance. No single colour, mark or layer tells the full story — just as neither Keen nor Savvy holds the whole truth alone. And that matters because we don’t merely observe reality. We make choices from what we see, and those choices help shape what comes next. Keen asks, “What if?” Savvy asks, “Is it worth it?” Progress needs both questions.
